The comparison between past and present heroes can be defined in many different ways, depending on the person who is asked. Maybe someone who saves lives. Maybe a student who simply talks to a new kid at school. The range of views people see heroes as is what they make it. However, no matter how someone sees a hero, there s one universal thing in common; that person had made an impact on someone’s life in one way or another. Scientists and surgeons, past and present, William Williams Keen and Benjamin Carson have been seen as heroes in the eyes of patients they ve operated on, scientists, and people of the public who are convinced that they have impacted the future of medicine forever. These men are considered as heroes in the eyes of society because of the many astonishingly significant contributions and breakthroughs both had on the world, and the obstacles they overcame before they could become the hero they were meant to be. Before Ben Carson was a 2016 presidential candid ate, he was once one of the most famous surgeons of his time with his most famous operation; he was the first person to ever successfully separate conjoined twins at the head. However, being a black man working as a surgeon in the late 1970’s had some people twisted out of shape. Many people said it was â€Å"a natural mistake† for him to be working as a surgeon at this time (Davidson 33).
